Easily record and analyze your own blood pressure readings anywhereWhether on the web or as a smartphone app, the “Blutdruckdaten.de” site provides the solution for all patients with high blood pressure. Anyone at risk of high blood pressure can now enter and analyze their own data at any time, completely free of charge and with ease. Although home-use measuring devices determine the readings quickly and anywhere, documenting and analyzing them on paper or using a spreadsheet had previously been laborious.
According to the “Green Cross,” around 12 million people in Germany alone are affected by high blood pressure. The consequences most feared are heart attacks and strokes, which are among the most common causes of death. It is therefore essential for this patient group to continuously monitor and analyze their own Blutdruckdaten. Until now, the available tools were blood pressure monitors for taking measurements and either paper and pencil or a spreadsheet.
Horst Klier, operator of the “Blutdruckdaten.de” website, who previously had high blood pressure and still regularly measures his readings, found analyzing them on paper or even in a spreadsheet too inconvenient. So the IT specialist took decisive action and promptly developed software for recording and analyzing blood pressure readings. The application was developed using HTML5 and Javascript and is therefore available online with a modern browser. For use on the go, there is an app for mobile devices such as Android smartphones or the iPhone. This means that the blood pressure readings obtained can not only be recorded quickly but also analyzed immediately. The cloud infrastructure allows the stored data to be accessed from anywhere. It can therefore be used without difficulty both via the mobile app and in a browser. “I have been programming web applications for 15 years. So it made sense to develop an online database for this task as well. I wanted a solution that was flexible, easy to use and, above all, free of charge. The analyses are informative and make the doctor’s work considerably easier,” Horst Klier explains of his motivation.
Anyone interested can register at www.Blutdruckdaten.de completely free of charge. For data protection reasons, no personal data is collected. A user-defined username and an email address are sufficient for registration. After logging in, readings can be recorded at any time to the exact minute and viewed as charts or statistics. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse and a comment are recorded. On request, users receive a detailed analysis as a PDF that can be presented to the doctor providing their care. It is even possible to import readings previously recorded in spreadsheets.
