27.07.2022: High blood pressure doubles the likelihood of needing hospital treatment because of COVID-19.
An American analysis concluded that high blood pressure doubles the likelihood of requiring hospital treatment when infected with the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. The retrospective study included 912 patients. Of these, 145 had to go to hospital as a result. Of these hospitalized individuals, 125 had high blood pressure. Across the entire group observed, this results in a 2.6-fold increased likelihood of needing treatment because of the COVID-19 infection for patients with high blood pressure. This also applies, as is explicitly pointed out, to patients who had no other chronic condition such as diabetes, heart failure, or kidney disease.

10.05.2019: Recall of Candesartan
The pharmaceutical company Puren Pharma GmbH & Co. KG is recalling several batches of Candesartan. The reason for the recall is incorrect labelling on the cartons. The affected medicines Candesartan-comp Puren 32 mg/25 mg, 98 tablets, and Candesartan-comp Puren 32 mg/12.5 mg, 98 tablets, have the correct strength stated on the blister packs, but a different strength is printed on the carton. As a result, 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide may be taken instead of 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide, which may lead to a greater reduction in blood pressure and increased diuresis.
Update 15.05.: The recall has now been extended to all batches
If you are taking these medicines, please return the packs to your pharmacy.
Aristo Pharma GmbH is also recalling one batch of Camlostar due to incorrect labelling. For the medicine Camlostar 8 mg/10 mg, 8mg/5mg is stated instead of 8mg/10mg in Braille on one of the red side panels. The pack contains hard capsules with a strength of 8mg/10mg. The labelling on the other sides and on the blister packs is correct. The first delivery of the affected packs took place on 29.03.19
Affected batch:
Camlostar (candesartan, amlodipine) 8 mg/10 mg, 98 hard capsules (PZN 12540701)

The Beurer BM 85 was downgraded because of a security issue in the Beurer HealthManager app. Update: According to Beurer, the security issue was an error on the part of Stiftung Warentest. The rating was subsequently corrected.
21.04.2016: The mail servers of WEB.DE and GMX are currently rejecting emails from us. There is no error on our side. The problem is due to an incorrect filter setting at WEB.DE / GMX. The responsible administrators at WEB.DE and GMX have been contacted so that they can resolve the problem. Update: The problem has been resolved.
25.03.2016: Under certain conditions, the Bluetooth function may fail to activate when the app starts and must then be activated again manually. This is not really serious, but over time it is annoying for users who work with a Bluetooth monitor. We have therefore created an update that fixes the error. Version 5.69 is already in the Play Store for Android, and the version for iOS has already been submitted to Apple.
We wish you happy holidays with your loved ones. Enjoy yourselves; your blood pressure will thank you.
10.03.2016: Today is World Kidney Day.
07.03.2016: Version 5.68 for Android contains a fix for entering decimal numbers when the keyboard has been switched to "Numeric."
02.03.2016: EPatient RSD GmbH is conducting the EPatient Survey 2016. It concerns your experiences with health information on the Internet. We support this survey and invite you to take part.
29.02.2016: Version 5.67 contains minor bug fixes and improvements. The app is already available for Windows, Windows Phone and Amazon Fire. Update 2.3.: Now also in the Google Play Store.
05.02.2016: The iOS version contains an error that requests Apple Health permissions incorrectly. The update (5.66) has already been submitted to Apple for review. When Bluetooth is switched off, it also no longer asks you to activate it in the system settings.
Update 10.2.: The update is now available in the App Store.
01.02.2016: Version 5.64 is now available in the Apple App Store.
19.01.2016: The filtering options in our monitor database have been revised. We hope this will make it even easier to select a suitable device.
13.01.2016: There is an error affecting email reception at Web.de/GMX. We are currently unable to deliver emails to recipients with email accounts at these services. The error is on the Web.de/GMX side; the administrators have been informed, and we expect it to be resolved soon. Unfortunately, we are also unable to answer support inquiries because our replies do not reach the recipients. This does not only affect emails from us; numerous other providers are likely experiencing the same difficulties.
Update 18:00: The problem has been resolved.
07.01.2016: Unfortunately, there was an error in the Android version update that caused the app to close immediately upon startup for some users. Unfortunately, it took almost 3 days for a corrected version to become available in the Play Store. The error only occurred under certain conditions and only during an update, which made it very difficult for us to identify.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
04.01.2016: The update to the new version 5.63 is now in the Google Play Store for Android. The iOS version will follow in approximately 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, we have no control over how long Apple's review takes.
27.12.2015: Lidl currently has the Sanitas SBM 67 Bluetooth upper-arm blood pressure monitor, which is supported by Tensana. At 22.99 euros (plus shipping), it is very inexpensive. Many thanks to our beta testers who pointed this out to us.
16.12.2015: The upcoming version 5.6 will make it easier to import data in many ways.
The highlight is certainly the direct connection of blood pressure monitors via Bluetooth. Devices that use the general Bluetooth Smart standard can send measurement results directly to the app. This requires a compatible monitor, and your smartphone or tablet must also support the technology. Not all Bluetooth monitors are suitable. Compatible monitors include devices in Medisana's Connect range and the Beurer BM85.
If you have a Withings device and collect your data in the Withings Cloud, you can import the data directly. Importing from VitaDock is also possible. This is Medisana's cloud.
If you have a device that transfers data to a PC, you can usually export the data there. We have expanded and adapted our import function so that it can read data from Omron and Tensoval.
The import function is already available in the web version. The app is available as a beta version for Android. If you are interested, simply send an email to beta@Tensana.app, and you will receive the link to the APK.
11.12.2015: The news section is being redesigned.
18.09.2014: To improve our support, we have created a list of frequently asked questions and their answers.
23.07.2014: We have optimized the display slightly for cases where there are gaps in the recorded values. Initially, the new display is only enabled in the browser version and the PDF. Most users will not notice any difference. Feedback is always appreciated.
07.06.2014: Just in time for Pentecost, version 5.11 has now also arrived in the Apple App Store. The version with measurement-site statistics is therefore available for all supported platforms.
06.06.2014: What do you think of health apps? Where do you see opportunities, risks and potential? Contribute your experiences, opinions and expectations to the European opinion-forming process. Until July 3, the European Commission is conducting a discussion with experts about the design of the future framework for m-health. The results of the GAPP online survey will be incorporated into this opinion-forming process. The GAPP online survey runs until 30.06.2014.
04.06.2014: The Visite program on NDR on 27.5. emphasized the importance of measuring blood pressure in both arms. We have supported entering the measurement site for a long time. There are now also statistics by measurement site, making it easier to identify differences in pressure. The apps will receive a corresponding minor update over the next few days.
14.05.2014: The Windows Store version (for Windows 8 and Windows RT) has now also been released.
12.05.2014: The new version is now also in the Apple App Store and the Windows Phone App Store. We particularly welcome new reviews in the Apple App Store.
07.05.2014: Due to maintenance work, all servers will be unavailable for approximately 1 minute during the night from Thursday to Friday. Thank you for your understanding.
06.05.2014: The new Android version is on its way to the Play Store. As usual, it takes a few days longer at Apple because the app still has to undergo a manual review.
10.04.2014: The new app version is finished and undergoing beta testing. Anyone who has an Android device and would like to help test it can contact beta@Tensana.app. In addition to medication management and a brand-new design, there are several other extras. The website's glossary is now included, as are the blood pressure, salt and BMI calculators. Nevertheless, the app is smaller than before, as it should still start as quickly as possible.
04.04.2014: Thank you for all the feedback. Medication entry has been revised according to your requests. It is now also possible to simply enter Morning-Noon-Evening-Night, and medication can be specified as being taken every two days or weekly.
21.03.1024: The web version now includes medication management. You can also enter your supply, allowing you to see how long your medication will last. This makes it easier to plan your next doctor's appointment. We look forward to hearing your opinion. The feature will soon also be added to the app.
26.02.2014: Stiftung Warentest reviewed the iHealth blood pressure monitor. You can find the report here. The final paragraph discusses Stiftung Warentest's most recent test of blood pressure monitors. We have summarized the results here.
06.02.2014: The version for Samsung devices running Android 4.0.4 is finally here. Unfortunately, it took quite a long time to obtain a suitable device on which the error actually occurred. We would also like to thank the testers who tested it on their devices in advance. The version has also been better adapted for small screens only 240 pixels wide. Since the first Android watches with such small displays are now available, this is quite interesting. A few more minor fixes and improvements complete the update. It has already been added to the Play Store.
03.02.2014: Connecting blood pressure monitors with a wireless interface (Bluetooth) is proving difficult. We have a device from a Chinese manufacturer that we could communicate with using the manufacturer's own protocol. However, that is not particularly useful because the device cannot (yet) be purchased anywhere. iHealth offers a Bluetooth device that can easily be ordered. However, iHealth does not want us to communicate with it directly. Data can only be read via the cloud, which means the iHealth app must continue to be used. On the other hand, the first modern devices with open interfaces are beginning to emerge. Samsung already lists 2 devices for its S Health concept. At least one of them can be ordered in the USA. We hope something will become available in Europe soon as well.
02.01.2014: Maintenance work will be carried out on one of our servers during the night from January 9 to 10. Brief outages may occur. Anyone who urgently needs a PDF report for a doctor's appointment should plan accordingly.
01.01.2014: We wish all users a happy and very healthy New Year!
30.12.2013: The Android version still has the problem affecting Samsung Android 4.0 devices, but the version has been released anyway. We are intensively searching online auction sites for a suitable device so that we can fix the error. Thanks to Christmas, many old mobile phones have become unwanted housemates, increasing our hopes of finding one soon. In any case, we wish you a happy New Year.
23.12.2013: The ITU has adopted a standard for communication between medical devices. In the future, this will make it possible to read data from measuring devices in a standardized way. We very much welcome this. You can find the English press release here.
21.12.2013: The Firefox OS app was selected as a recommendation by Mozilla's editors and is currently featured on the home page of the Firefox Marketplace. \o/
19.12.2013: The Apple version still had a problem with entering glucose values using the scroll wheels. This has been fixed, and the update has already been available since yesterday. The new version is also now available for Windows 8/RT and Firefox OS in their respective stores. The Windows Phone update has been submitted to Microsoft for review. The Windows Store version was also rejected once because it supposedly allowed unrestricted access to social networks and would therefore require an age restriction. As screenshot evidence, we were shown the PDF request form. We have absolutely no idea what Microsoft meant by that. We then tried submitting it again with the explanation that a PDF is not a social network. It was accepted that time-Microsoft is certainly fast when it comes to the Windows Store. The Android update is still pending. We are still working on the Samsung problem and, without our own device, depend on users for help. We would like to thank Mr. Müller, who has already tested various versions for us and even made a video to help us troubleshoot the error.
14.12.2013: The new version has also been available in the Apple App Store for a few days. On Android, there are problems with Samsung devices running Android 4.0.4. We have a possible solution but no device on which to test it. It is not at all easy to find a suitable device, partly because an existing Samsung Android version cannot be downgraded. You would not believe how many Samsung Android devices I have held over the past few days to check the operating system version. Fortunately, we have users who always provide us with such excellent support. There was also a problem using the keyboard with Android 2.x, mainly on HTC devices. This has been fixed and tested. As soon as the other issue has been resolved, the update will be released.
06.12.2013: The new version is here. It has already been released for Android. According to the first comments, it caused problems on Samsung devices. That is strange because not one of our beta testers with a Samsung device reported this. On the other hand, Samsung has always been very particular. As a quick remedy, we released a version that uses the old page system on Samsung devices. Update 8.12.: Due to the large amount of feedback, the old system will once again be used for all Android devices; the latest individual values will also always be displayed immediately
27.11.2013: Patients with high blood pressure should watch their salt intake. However, some types of tablets also contain a lot of sodium chloride, meaning the recommended daily intake may already be exceeded. More information is available in the article in bild der wissenschaft.
24.11.2013: As we have just noticed, Google made a change in Android 4.4 (KitKat) that causes stored data to be lost during an update. Anyone who uses the app on a device with the previous version and then updates to 4.4 will lose all values and settings. This is only serious if the app is used without registration. If it is used with registration, you only need to re-enter your username and password. We display a corresponding warning in the app. Users of Nexus devices are primarily affected because so far only these devices have received an update. However, the warning is displayed on all Android devices because we can hardly predict which manufacturers will offer an update for which devices, when they will do so, or whether they will offer one at all.
PS: If anyone does experience data loss, we can restore the data in cooperation with the user. Please contact support. Update: According to user feedback, there are no problems. However, we were able to reproduce the behavior with our test devices. The warning will therefore remain in place.
23.11.2013: Deutschlandradio Kultur reports on the new guidelines for treating high blood pressure. Read the report.
22.11.2013: We have received an upper-arm blood pressure monitor with a Bluetooth interface directly from China and are working on integrating it directly into the app. The device is not yet commercially available, but we expect several such devices to appear in 2014 as a result of the new Bluetooth "Smart Ready" standard and want to adapt the app for them early on.
18.11.2013: We have a "release candidate" for version 4.5. Android users who would like to test it in advance should contact us by email at beta@Tensana.app.
29.08.2013: You can see Tensana at the Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin from September 6 to 11. It will be in the app bar at the Deutsche Telekom stand in Hall 6.2.
14.08.2013: The app is now also available for Firefox OS. It can be downloaded from the Firefox Marketplace.
06.08.2013: We are now officially permitted to display the "HealthOn Code of Honor for Trustworthy Health Information in Apps" seal. Apps awarded this seal must meet a series of conditions intended to ensure that patients can trust the app's content. Many thanks to Dr. Ursula Kramer for the excellent cooperation.26.07.2013: The Windows 8 app is now also available. You can get it from the Windows App Store.
19.07.2013: The Windows Phone version of the app has finally been released. It can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store.
10.07.2013: The European Society of Hypertension has published new guidelines for treating high blood pressure. They can be downloaded as a 77-page English PDF from the ESH website. The guidelines place greater importance than before on patients measuring their own blood pressure because individual measurements at a doctor's office do not fully reflect patients' real-life circumstances. We are very pleased about this, as Tensana supports precisely these self-measurements.
08.06.2013: As announced, the server infrastructure was expanded today. Thanks to the low number of users due to the fine weather, we carried out the transition at 13:00. The outage lasted only about 15 minutes.
01.06.2013: The new 4.x versions of the app are available. The Android version has already been available for 2 weeks, and the iOS version is now available too. This enables the frequently requested offline use. We still hope to finish the first Windows Phone version in June. A server expansion is also scheduled for the next few days.
30.04.2013: All texts in the glossary have been medically and professionally reviewed by Dr. Chris Wollenberg and are up to date.
18.04.2013: We have been working for some time on a version of the app that can be used without an Internet connection. It is now available as a beta. Unfortunately, it is only available for Android because Apple does not permit the installation of beta versions. Anyone with an Android device who would like to test the new version in advance should contact beta@Tensana.app informally (beta phase ended; please do not contact us anymore).
01.11.2012: PDF reports are now generated using new technology. As a result, the files are significantly smaller while still being sharper.
18.10.2012: Presumably due to the Android update, traffic has risen dramatically-to the point where server capacity is no longer sufficient. Following initial emergency measures, the service is available again, but there are still intermittent outages. We apologize for this. Update: The situation was made particularly severe by an app feature that tried to reconnect very frequently in the event of network problems. A quick follow-up update for the Android app was therefore released.
16.10.2012: The minor update 3.1 is available in the web app and for Android. It was actually supposed to be released at the same time as the iOS version, but Apple is causing problems with its approval. However, we did not want to wait any longer. The iOS version will simply be released whenever Apple sees fit. There is now also a "Premium Membership."
10.08.2012: Version 3.0 is here! The new version of Tensana was developed with Bundesverband Niere e.V., whom we would also like to thank for the excellent cooperation. Our press release provides all the details about the new version.
09.08.2012: As sometimes happens, the move did cause some problems after all. Moving the address (domain) tensana.app takes time because the new address first has to "spread" across the Internet. Unfortunately, the automatic redirect active during this time encodes spaces and umlauts. As a result, users with spaces or umlauts could not log in this morning. Only the apps were affected. We apologize to those affected.
08.08.02012: At 23:00, we moved to a new server. There was a brief outage that very few people probably noticed.
02.07.2012: There was a server problem this morning, which meant the service was unavailable from approximately 8:45 to 10:00. Once the problem had been resolved, all databases had to be checked and some cleanup work carried out. During this process, a substantial queue of PDF reports accumulated, which took several hours to process. As a result, the delivery of some PDF reports was severely delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience.
05.04.2012: In its current issue, Stiftung Warentest examined the salt content of 74 products. This is certainly important for patients with high blood pressure because there is a link between salt intake and blood pressure. Since ready-made products in particular often obscure their salt content by providing sodium figures, we programmed a small salt calculator. I hope you find it useful.
09.03.2012: Apple has actually done it. iOS 5.1 is being released even though it brings an unfortunate new feature. Until now, apps with a WebView could store data in what is known as LocalStorage. That is precisely what it is for-to store data securely. It was then also backed up by iTunes, and everything was fine. This has now changed with iOS 5.1. LocalStorage can be deleted by the operating system. It does so immediately when the device is updated. Until the last moment, we had hoped Apple would change this, as it is quite a bold move to suddenly delete storage that was previously considered secure. But what does this mean in practical terms? The Tensana app stores login details there. After the update, these details will therefore be gone and must be entered again. This is annoying but manageable. Things become a little more complicated if the app is used "without logging in." The data is always stored securely on the server, but a secret key exchanged between the server and the app and stored in the app is used to determine which data belongs to which user. If that key is gone, the server will no longer release the data. Our support team can certainly help in that case, but some cooperation from the user is required. We would like to spare you this and are therefore currently misusing the advertising integration to warn all users. This is not ideal, but it is the fastest way to respond until the app is updated.
07.03.2012: We are currently doing a lot of work on the databases in the background. Unfortunately, an error occurred in the process. For users who work in the browser and have enabled automatic login, the password was encrypted one more time. Unfortunately, this causes it to be recognized as invalid. Affected users can have a new password sent to them using "Forgot password." Our support team can help with any questions or problems. The faulty feature was not active for long, and we suspect the number of people affected is in the single digits. Nevertheless, we apologize.
01.03.2012: There was a server problem yesterday evening that made the service difficult to reach for about an hour. The cause was probably an overload of another service on the same server. At approximately 19:30, this also stopped emails from being sent, and several hundred pending PDF reports quickly accumulated. Even after the restart, it therefore took some time to process everything. Some users consequently had to wait several hours for PDF reports or confirmation emails. We apologize for this problem. Nowadays, such short-term load peaks could be handled effectively using cloud services, but such solutions are currently not an option because of unresolved data protection issues.
23.02.2012: Although we are still waiting for the overdue Android 4.0 updates for some of our test devices, we have nevertheless released a new version in the Market. In addition to fixing the problem with Android ICS, we have revised the display and now support landscape mode. Tablet users will certainly find this very convenient. Many small details have been improved, but we have made an effort to ensure that they are as unobtrusive as possible.
Naturally, we also want to make the improved tablet support available to iPad users quickly. In our experience, Apple's review process is currently taking an unusually long time. It will probably be March before it is released in any event.
02.02.2012: There are display problems on some Android devices running the new version 4.0. Anyone affected can obtain a preview version from us in which the problem has been fixed. It will still take some time before the official update is released.
20.11.2011: The German Hypertension League recently awarded its coveted test seal to three devices. You can find them on our monitor page.
16.11.2011: The iOS app received a top rating in the 12/2011 issue of iPAD&CO: 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you, dear iPAD&CO editorial team.
04.11.2011: There is a minor problem with the chart labels. If the displayed period begins during daylight saving time and ends during standard time, the date is displayed one day incorrectly during standard time. This is because October 30 has 25 hours. If you add 24 hours to midnight, it is still October 30. There are so many things to consider. An update is being developed. The browser version is already up to date, and the apps will follow shortly.
Incidentally, because of transposed digits, someone requested a PDF report covering almost 2,000 years yesterday. This caused delays for other users. There is therefore now a limit of 3 years. We assume this is still more than enough. :-)
21.10.2011: The update for iOS5 was approved by Apple last night.
14.10.2011: The update for iOS5 is already in Apple's review process. Unfortunately, we have no control over when it will be approved. We hope it will be processed quickly. Unfortunately, no new features are included, although we would have liked to use the new options for setting the date and time. However, rapid approval was more important at the moment.
13.10.2011: Unfortunately, there is a problem with the iPhone app under iOS5. The date and time input fields do not work properly when entering a new record. We are working on a solution and will submit an update to Apple this week so that it can become available as quickly as possible.
07.10.2011: Stiftung Warentest reviewed blood pressure monitors that can be connected directly to the iPhone. The measurement results are quite good. View the test.
14.09.2011: Our editorial team tested the Panasonic EW-BW 10.
09.09.2011: At users' request, we have slightly optimized the "My Data" section for printing. When you click "Print" in the browser, some unimportant areas are no longer included. Unfortunately, however, it does not match the quality of the PDF printout.
02.09.2011: Users have often asked whether we have a PayPal donation button because they would like to give us something. We resisted for a long time. The service's continued operation is already assured, and who likes to "beg"? Ultimately, however, users' wishes persuaded us to create a donation page. But please do not feel obligated. That is really not how it is meant. ;-)
01.09.2011: The German Hypertension League has redesigned its website: www.hochdruckliga.de
